Just installed the very cool WPTouch plugin (http://www.bravenewcode.com/products/wptouch/), which effortlessly creates a Smartphone friendly version of any WordPress blog. Anyone running a WordPress blog should look at installing this plugin, as it’s incredibly simple to install and setup.

Facebook Chat can now be used with chat clients that support Jabber – this includes iChat, Adium, Pidgin and AIM.

I’ve managed to successfully set it up on both Adium and iChat. With Adium it seems to work better with Jabber rather than the current Facebook chat feature included in Adium (which isn’t really supported by Facebook).

It’s good to see that Facebook is finally providing a Jabber service, as it now makes it a lot easier for members to utilize their chat system without needing to constantly be on the site.

This here’s my first post of a (hopefully) weekly series I’m calling 4Links, it’s simply just 4 interesting pages I’ve discovered during that week.

underscore.js

An interesting JavaScript library designed to run alongside of jQuery. Although I haven’t yet used coded with it, it appears to provide functionality that would be found in Ruby. Definitely one I’ll look at using in the future.

Parcycle

Crazy particle graphics using the HTML5 canvas object. Very cool.

Visual Complexity

I have to be honest, I really like sexy data visualisation. This blog’s full of it. Mmmmm

jQTouch

This is something I’m a wee bit excited about, it’s a jQuery plugin that can allow a page to be developed that will behave alot like a native iPhone application. This will allow developers to more easily create an iPhone optimised version of their website.

Last Tuesday saw the somewhat official release of ProjectX‘s Mapsicle onto the Google Maps Utility Library. Mapsicle is an extension to the Streetview Panorama feature in the Google Maps API, which allows text, images or any HTML content to be assigned to a particular location and overlaid on the Streetview Panorama.

The switch has been flicked

After weeks of procrastination, I’ve finally switched over from Blogger.com to my new WordPress.org blog which I’m hosting on Rackspace Cloud.

All the previous posts have been imported from blogger, and can still also be accessed at cameron-prebble.blogspot.com.

Hopefully this change is going to motivate me to do a lot more blogging, so keep an eye out

Cycling & Walking Journey Planner is here

Just launched from the Greater Wellington Regional Council is the new Cycling & Walking Journey Planner. Built by the team at ProjectX Technology the Journey Planner provides optimised routes for both walking and cycling for the entire Wellington Region.
Unlike the walking routes provided on Google Maps, this Journey Planner also uses the many public accessways and shortcuts to provide more convenient routes to the user, plus gives the user the ability to click-n-drag their own alternative routes, as well as displaying the numerous points of interest in the area.
Launched to coincide with World Carfree Day, this site should hopefully become an asset to all Wellingtonians.

NZCS Evening With Industry Tonight

Tonight I’ll be doing a quick talk at the New Zealand Computer Society’s Evening with Industry up at Victoria University. This event is designed to inform students who are about to graduate what to expect when trying to enter the IT workforce.
I’ll be outlining my time spent with ProjectX Technology and Made from New Zealand, as well as my time involved in the Summer of Code.
There will also be speakers from Trade Me, BNZ, Intergen, Code to Customer, Provoke, Catalyst and KPMG.
